Approximately a century ago, Roux discovered multiple completely untapped silver mines in the heart of their territory. Before inflation set in, the rush influx of wealth allowed Roux to drastically expand the size of their military forces to previously unseen levels. The border conflicts between Roux and it’s neighbors became severely one sided. This caused all adjacent nations to ally against the Rouxian powerhouse and invade. By that time it was too late, Roux cavalry swallowed the invaders with ease. The nation of Arlon was completely wiped off the map. Gildarem, Livaria, and Granadar all lost substantial amounts of territory and would have lost the entirety of their countries had The Gospel not intervened.
As the “Salt Barons” of Faridar, other nations bleed green with envy for the power and prestige that Roux wields. They also bleed out of their ledgers. Home to the only substantial salt deposits in Faridar, every nation has purchased this meat preservation chemical at one time from Roux. There used to be competition from Azhnar salt, but since Roux expanded their Inner Sea fleet and started raiding Faridarian exports to Azhnar (and salt imports not bound for Roux), the country has attained a practical monopoly on the life critical substance. The petty quantity that can be economically transported by road through Granadar never makes it anywhere near Livaria and the sum that goes through Aralai can’t pass through New Ugwan do to the lack of roads and unstable political situation. Suffice to say relations with other nations…can be strained at times.
Roux is also home to the finest grape crops in Faridar and thus the finest wine. No self-respecting noble outside Livaria would be caught drinking anything less. In fact, at most masquerade balls you will commonly find the elite sipping the fine vintages while whispering “Damn, Naviod” under their breath.
